"How can we feed them all? There are so
many of them!" This was the desperate appeal of the disciples
facing the challenge of feeding a hungry multitude. With a mere
five loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus called His disciples
to "Feed them." A young boys lunch was then
multiplied to feed over five thousand.
This is the vision of the New York Christian
Resource Center (NYCRC). What little we do have, offered to
and blessed by God, can be used by modern day disciples to extend
Jesus hand to work miracles once more.
For over twelve years, the leaders of NYCRC
have been impacting the greater metropolitan area by procuring
and channeling resources to bring compassionate aid to impoverished
urban communities. In fact, in this decade alone 15 million
dollars in direct grants, goods and services have been secured
assisting well over one million people. As this resource center
evolves, with headquarters near the World Trade Center in Manhattan,
a more focused approach to community development is emerging.
The emphasis is on targeting areas of need,
securing the necessary resources, raising local support and
distributing whatever is available to effect spiritual and social
transformation within the community. Working through a growing
"collective" network of churches, ministries and agencies,
the "miracle" extends across racial, geographic and
denominational lines.
As noble even Scriptural as "giving
fish" may be, the fulfillment of our mission can only come
when we "teach how to fish" as well. Therefore, the
developmental needs for education, rehabilitation, counseling,
skills training and spiritual growth must be incorporated into
the process. Then we have not only made a difference for a day,
but have inspired hope and healing that will last a lifetime.
You are invited to join us in this
continuing miracle.
